Maintenance Guide

Routine Maintenance:

  • A leaf blower is ideal for general upkeep, use to remove organic materials from the artificial turfs surface. We also recommend a Grande Groom Artificial Turf Rake, available for purchase through Modern Grounds.
  • A shop-vac may be used for dry spills. Be sure to hold the suction end of the hose off the surface to avoid removing infill along with the debris.
  • If weeds are present, remove weed and root if possible. Spray area with pre or post emergent herbicide, which is available at most major retail stores.
  • If the infill is disturbed after a heavy rain, let the area dry, remove the surface debris, and fluff the area with a Grande Groom to redistribute the surface infill.

Pet Clean-Up:

  • To clean away pet waste and help eliminate odors, routinely rinse the areas that your pet uses with water (oscillating sprinkler recommended).
  • Enzyme spray such as OxyTurf (sold by Modern Grounds) or Simply Natural are also good options to help eliminate pet bacteria and smells.
  • Remove solid waste regularly.

Home Putting Greens:

  • For customers who desire a faster ball speed, we recommend using a water roller weekly or monthly. Water Roller is available for purchase through Modern Grounds.
  • To prevent tripping hazards, remove flag post and use cup covers. Replacement flags and cup covers are available for purchase through Modern Grounds.

Spot Cleaning and Disinfecting:

  • Sticky spills should be rinsed thoroughly. If necessary, commercial disinfectants may be used. Be sure to rinse afterward in order to flush the solution through the turf.
  • Food waste should be removed promptly to avoid attracting pests.
  • Stains such as paint may be removed with water soluble products. DO NOT use acetone or petroleum based products. Mineral Spirits are recommended by the industry.
  • Use ice to remove gum from the turf or backing.

Avoiding Potential Problems:

  • IMPORTANT – Inform your lawncare company! Avoid laying anything hot on the turf, such as leaf blowers, weed trimmers, lit cigarettes, chainsaws, or barbecues. Hot items may damage the turf.
  • Spraying water on the turf will make it more comfortable on bare feet and pets on very hot days.
  • High efficiency windows and white vinyl fences can occasionally concentrate the suns energy to high heats that create a magnification effect that can put your turf at risk. We recommend using ground cover that will not be affected by the very high heat, such as stepping stones, or decorative rocks. It is also possible to deflect the sun through the use of shades, awnings or TurfShield window treatments.
  • Problems with yard pests such as gophers may require additional barriers.
